Chesterton Academy of St. James is an early-stage Catholic classical high school nonprofit with a passionate, entrepreneurial Board seeking to mature governance, clarify strategy, and plan the next 3–5 years.

The Opportunity

Chesterton Academy of St. James partnered with Manresa Collaboration to design and facilitate its first Board planning retreat. They asked Manresa Collaboration to (1) organize and reframe their inputs strategically, (2) design high-value pre-work for the Board, and (3) design and facilitate a retreat that produced actionable next steps.

Our Approach

  • Discovery & Synthesis: Reorganized leadership inputs into a clear hierarchy (vision → mission → milestones → goals).
  • Pre-work & Framing: Recommended common language and SMART goal structures and designed targeted exercises.
  • Retreat Design & Facilitation: Drove two core outcomes—3–5-year action planning and future Board composition.
  • Tooling & Handover: Delivered proprietary templates, survey and survey analyses, skills matrix, and action-planning workbooks so the Board could continue independently post-retreat.

Outcomes

  • Clarified and developed SMART goals for strategic planning

  • Produced prioritized 3–5-year initiatives with identified leads and next steps.
  • Created tools and frameworks for ongoing planning and tracking progress
  • Strengthened Board alignment, governance, and accountability for future growth
